Interactive Gallery - Te Whare Tapere GalleryThe Whare Tapere Gallery is a world class interactive gallery. In earlier times, Whare Tapere were an important part of Māori life. They were places inside the pā (village or settlement) for Māori to gather and share in song, dance, storytelling and entertainment. In the Whare Tapere gallery at Te Puia, visitors can enjoy our Māori stories and many interactive exhibits about marae processes and protocols, Māori weaponry and musical instruments, and the importance of the pā in early Māori society. Our Māori stories are told through a diverse range of innovative interpretive media, including touch screens, motion tracking devices, and multi-user interactives. In contrast to the hi-tech interactive media are beautiful examples of traditional woven and carved Māori arts. Discover our New Zealand native birds and listen to the calls they make. Also listen to the sounds of our traditional Maori musical instruments. The Te Whare Tapere gallery is a place of interactive discovery, so take the time to explore it after of before your guided tour.
