New Zealand's leading and longest running cultural tourism attraction, Te Puia has awarded the much coveted 'e-culture' award at the World Summit Awards (WSA) which recognise e-content & creativity in organisations around the world.

Te Puia was one of 650 products from 160 countries who were judged across a number of categories at the meeting of the jury of Global WSA which met recently in Croatia. The only nomination from New Zealand, the awards comprise five categories and the winners will be presented with their awards at a lavish ceremony in Venice on 5th of November.

Te Puia Sales and Marketing Manager, Kelly Whitehead says that the accolade is "wonderful recognition for the creative, technical and cultural work that went into re-developing Te Puia and it is excellent to see the Te Puia example being recognised on the international stage."

Leading edge tourism technologies are a key element of the new Te Puia which underwent a multi million refurbishment programme earlier this year. The specific area which attracted the attention of the WSA judges was the interactive gallery in Te Whare Tapere - house of multi disciplines. A collaboration of efforts and technological wizardry between Te Puia and Wellington based 3D Creative Te Whare Tapere interprets the precious stories of Te Whakarewarewa Valley through touch screen and sensory technology. Chris Hay of Lumen Digital worked with the 3D Creative team to create a high-tech experience that was informative, fun and educational.

Te Whare Tapere is one of four new buildings that now provide visitors with a cultural tourism experience that is being recognised both internationally and domestically as a world first in the way that we share our culture and ancient stories with visitors.
