Events - Opera in the PāOpera in the Pā: a unique event situated on the steps of the beautiful Rotowhio Meeting House at the award winning tourist icon, Te Puia in Rotorua. Opera in the Pā - Saturday 29th January 2011 "It was a night to remember in more ways than one as this year's edition of Opera in the Pa honoured the brave men of the famous Maori Battalion. The 14th annual Opera in the Pa was held outside Rotowhio Marae at Te Puia on Saturday night. Twelve international, national and local artists performed songs at the outdoor concert including tenor Benjamin Makisi and lyric sopranos Timua Brennan and Maria Kapa as well as a six-voice male choir assembled by music director and producer for the event, University of Auckland senior music tutor Robert Wiremu." - Matthew Martin, The Daily Post, Rotorua. read more » Opera in the Pā was awarded the NZ Tourism Award for Culture & Heritage Innovation in 2002 and the standard has remained high ever since.
