Te Puia returns as the host venue of this iconic event Opera in the Pā 2023!


Sunday 26th March, 2023 from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. This is a ticketed event.

A magical and breath-taking evening of opera, and Māori and Pasifika music in the heart of Rotorua.

Gates open from 4pm on Sunday 26th March 2023, giving ample opportunity to enjoy the late afternoon ambience, find friends and enjoy the refreshments available on-site.

Concertgoers will be invited to take their seating by 4.20pm, with the concert beginning at 4.30pm.

During the interval, Hiakai Café will have small snack portions of delicious favourites available for purchase on the night.

The glow of the setting sun frames the spectacular wharenui, Te Aronui a Rua, for the concert finale. The perfect culmination of Māori and Pasifika voices.

Details: Ticketed entry to Te Puia venue for Opera in the Pa concert only. Non-reserved seating first come basis. The Opera in the Pa is an outdoor event and can be affected by the weather. The stage and area for concertgoers is uncovered and open-air. Please note the concert will proceed rain or shine unless the site is deemed by emergency services and concert management to be unsafe.

Option 2: Opera – Concert & Bento Box

Come and join us for an unforgettable evening of soprano’s, tenors, and everything in between. Te Puia once again plays host to this special event. This package is available for online pre-purchase only and includes general concert admission + freshly prepared Bento Box.

Details: Ticketed entry to Te Puia venue for Opera in the Pa concert + Bento Box. (A bento box serving of Butter chicken & rice, Texas brisket fried bread slider, Ranch slaw and trifle.) Non-reserved seating first come basis. The Opera in the Pa is an outdoor event and can be affected by the weather. The stage and area for concertgoers is uncovered and open-air. No, you cannot bring alcohol or food to concerts at Te Puia. There are options to pre-purchase food and beverage, or purchase on the day from Hiakai Cafe.

What is included in the Bento Box?

A bento box serving of Butter chicken & rice, Texas brisket fried bread slider, Ranch slaw and trifle.

 Can I bring water to the concert?

You can bring one 750ml bottle of unopened water with you. Please note: No glass allowed

Can I bring umbrellas?

No, for the safety of other concertgoers, you may not bring umbrellas to the event. Please consider other concertgoer’s comfort and viewing pleasure.

If I hold a general admission ticket, can I bring a chair and sunshade device?

The open-air concert venue is fully seated on a non-reserved first come basis. Chairs and umbrellas are not permitted. Please consider other concertgoer’s comfort and viewing pleasure.

What are the costs for children to attend?

Child prices for Opera in the Pa are 0-5 years FREE. Children aged between 6- 15 years will require a General Admission (Concert or Concert + Bento) ticket for entry.
