Steambox + Blueys
Steambox refers to your self selected Hāngī steamed lunch cooked in a natural steam vent. This 3-hour guided experience includes access to the Kiwi Conservation Centre, insights into indigenous art and craft and special access to picnic beneath the raw power of Pohutu geyser, alongside a cobalt blue lake which receives the run-off from the silica encrusted geyser terrace.
“The Blueys” has been the playground for generations of tamariki and whānau of hau kāinga, people of the local marae.
The minimum duration of Steambox + Bluey’s is 3 hours.
This includes being guided through the greenstone, wood carving and flax weaving schools at the New Zealand Māori Arts & Crafts Institute, Rotowhio Pā, Kiwi Conservation Centre and Te Whakarewarewa geothermal valley including Pōhutu geyser, self-selected hāngī steamed lunch lifted from a natural steam vent, picnic blanket alongside “The Blueys” – a cobalt blue lake which receives the run-off from the silica encrusted geyser terrace.

Approximately 1.5km of walking is required (we can accommodate for children requiring a stroller or those in or requiring a wheelchair for this experience- we are happy to assist you).
