A Traditional Māori Welcome
Be thrilled by the challenge of our Māori warriors or the spine-tingling cry of our women as we welcome you to Te Puia in our powerful and time-honoured way. The pōwhiri (ceremonial welcome) is offered to your guests as an exciting start to your visit with us.
Rāukura is our premier package for those who want an exclusive and in-depth cultural encounter. You will be personally guided through Te Puia, including the Whakarewarewa valley, hearing the stories of our people, our culture and our place. Make an intimate connection to our culture with hands-on activities and enjoy the unique flavours of our Māori cuisine.
Our Restaurant (capacity: 120)
Te Poari is situated next to the main kitchen, making it the ideal venue for functions where catering is important. With seating for 120 and a separate buffet area, Te Poari is Te Puia’s versatile gourmet restaurant.
Te Whare Tapare
House of Entertainment (capacity: 80)
In this gallery you will discover the story of our ancestors’ arrival and settlement in the valley, explore the customs and traditions of the people of Rotowhio Marae, and find out about the geology and natural life of this fascinating place. This space also doubles as a dining area and can be combined with the nearby Te Poari for larger events.
Te Aronui a Rua
Cultural Centre (capacity: 200)
Our fully carved meeting house has witnessed many special occasions as the focal point for cultural interactions. It was built by students and graduates of our own carving school between1967 and 1981 and features a large stage for performances.
The Cloak (capacity: 300 dining 800 standing)
Te Whakaruruhau is a large sheltered area near the entrance to Te Puia. Conveniently located next to the Pohutu Café, Rotowhio Marae and Te Heketanga a Rangi, this open meeting space is suitable for large functions, both Seated or Canape's and A la Carte.
Pohutu by Night
Dine underneath the stars, deep in the heart of Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve, with Pohutu Geyser illuminated in its full glory beneath starry skies. Enjoy an intimate and awe-inspiring encounter with our unique environment and with the people and stories of this land.
Īngō - Beer, Bubbles and Mussels
Enjoy the unique taste of our Maori culture here at Te Puia. Gather at Ngararatuatara marquee, and watch as fresh New Zealand mussels, whole king prawns, corn and vegetables are placed in flax woven baskets and poached in our geothermal spring. Your mouthwatering meal is topped off with a refreshing New Zealand beer or sparkling wine.
